Phosphoric and polyphosphoric acid solutions for more durable pavement.
Polyphosphoric acid significantly improves the thermal-mechanical properties of asphalt cement and yields a more durable pavement. Our high quality polyphosphoric acid increases the high-temperature performance grade (PG) rating of asphalt, improves resistance to rutting, and delivers superior adhesion to moisture-sensitive aggregates with no loss of low-temperature properties and performance. These benefits are demonstrated through conventional and SuperpaveTM testing procedures and years of successful use in pavement applications worldwide.

Polyphosphoric acid by ICL is offered in concentrations of 105, 108, 115, 116, and 117%. Product viscosity increases with concentration and determines the differences in handling requirements, however all grades are effective in asphalt modification. All concentrations are available in drum and bulk quantities. To assist your production requirements, we also offer PADS®  (Polyphosphoric Acid Delivery Systems), our state-of-the-art portable delivery systems engineered for quick and effective plant use. Both PADS®  and PADS II are available for sale or as part of a polyphosphoric acid supply agreement and are offered with full technical and engineering support.

Polyphosphoric acid benefits:
  • Small amounts of polyphosphoric acid increase the high-temperature Performance Grade (PG) rating of asphalt with no loss of low-temperature properties. Asphalt pavement can withstand higher temperatures and resist the tendency for rutting
  • Small amounts of polyphosphoric acid increase the adherence of asphalt cement to moisture-sensitive aggregates
  • Moisture sensitivity tests indicate that polyphosphoric acid provides anti-stripping benefits, similar to liquid amine-based agents and lime

Phosphoric Acid (35-85%) Phosphoric Acid (35 – 85) refers to phosphoric acid at various concentrations between 35 and 85% can be used. We offer specific grades of 35%, 36%, 50%, 70%, 75%, 80% and 85%.
Polyphosphoric Acid (105-117%) This is a partially polymerized form of phosphoric acid with no free water. We offer concentrations of 105, 108, 115, 116, and 117%. The products are used as reagents in several industrial and specialty applications.
